NVQ Level 6 in Construction Contracting Operations Management is a competency-based qualification designed for Contracts Managers who work in the construction sector. By obtaining the qualification, the learner will have evidence that they are working to the required standard of their role.

A competency-based qualification designed for Contracts Managers who work in the construction sector

  • Entry Requirements : Learners must be aged 19 or above and be working in a construction managerial role or similar.
  • Assessment: Workplace assessment and creation of a portfolio of work.
  • CITB Grant: CITB registered companies can claim £1500 for every learner who completes this NVQ. To claim the grant, they will need to make a manual claim themselves retrospectively.

Who is this qualification suitable for?

Contracts or Project Managers aiming to gain the Black CSCS Card or Manager Card.

Are there any entry requirements?

Learners must be aged 19 or above and be working in a construction managerial role or similar.

We conduct a thorough eligibility and suitability process with every new learner, so if this NVQ is not suitable, we will suggest one that is.

What does NVQ Level 6 in Construction Contracting Operations include?

This NVQ includes a selection of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units are:

  • Confirming work activities and resources for an occupation work area in the workplace
  • Developing and maintaining good occupational working relationships in the workplace
  • Confirming the occupational method of work in the workplace
  • Implementing and maintaining health, safety, environmental and welfare practices in the workplace
  • Co-ordinating and organising work operation in the workplace
  • Monitoring the progress of work against schedules in the workplace

The learner will also need to select from the following optional units:

  • Allocating and monitoring the use of plant, machinery, equipment or vehicles in the workplace
  • Confirming work meets contractual industry and manufacturers standards in the workplace
  • Implementing procedures to support team performance in the workplace
  • Co-ordinating and confirming the dimensional control requirements of the work in the workplace

How long does it take to complete the NVQ?

The duration of the course is dependent on how quickly the learner can gather the relevant evidence.

How is this qualification assessed?

The learner will be assessed in their workplace in a variety of ways, such as evidence generated from the workplace.

Evidence types could include:

  • Workplace Evidence
  • Work Product (written work)
  • Observations
  • Witness Testimonies
  • Reflective Accounts
  • Professional Discussions

To achieve the NVQ, the learner must provide sufficient evidence to meet the units and unit criteria for the NVQ. The assessor will continually review the learner’s progress and support the learner throughout the duration of their NVQ.

Once the learner’s portfolio has been completed, this will undergo an internal verification process before certification.

How is this qualification delivered?

NVQs can be completed nationwide.

Progress can be made remotely and through site visits (if required).

Once we have enrolled the learner, they will be assigned an assessor who will work with them to build their portfolio of evidence.

Learners registering for this qualification will be enrolled on the e-Portfolio system, Bud.

The system allows learners to:

  • Access anytime and from anywhere, via PC, laptop, tablet or phone
  • Upload evidence as they have it, e.g. photos, videos and documents straight from their phone
  • Complete activities and send messages straight to their assessor
  • View their progress, see what’s outstanding and next steps
  • Access support documents and information as and when required

The assessor will also arrange a site induction with the learner. The site induction can be delivered on-site or remotely and is used to plan how the learner will obtain all the required evidence.

The assessor will also follow up with regular reviews to ensure that the learner is on track with their qualification.
