What does NEBOSH National General Certificate include?

The NEBOSH National General Certificate course consists of two units.

Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety

  • Element 1 Why we should manage workplace health and safety.
  • Element 2 How health and safety management systems work and what they look like.
  • Element 3 Managing risk – understanding people and processes
  • Element 4 Health and safety monitoring and measuring

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

  • Element 5 Physical and psychological health.
  • Element 6 Musculoskeletal health.
  • Element 7 Chemical and biological agents.
  • Element 8 General workplace issues.
  • Element 9 Work equipment.
  • Element 10 Fire.
  • Element 11 Electricity.

What are the learning outcomes for this course?

The participant will learn to manage health and safety effectively, confidently conduct risk assessments, and identify and control common workplace hazards. Learning outcomes will also include the following:

  • An understanding of the UK's legal requirements.
  • Management of workplace risks.
  • The development and implementation of a detailed action plan.

The participant will also partake in incident investigations and be able to assess and evaluate risks, recognise a range of common hazards, and recommend further control measures. They will also have the skills and confidence to impact and influence the health and safety culture within the business.

How is this course assessed?

The NEBOSH National General Certificate consists of two assessments.

  • Unit NG1 is assessed via an open book, scenario-based exam, which you do from home and have 24 hours to complete.
  • Unit NG2 is assessed through a practical risk assessment at your workplace. It includes developing an action plan that can immediately be utilised to improve your workplace's health and safety.

The cost of the examination is included when booking the classroom course.

If booking the eLearning, the exams will be an additional fee and must be booked separately.

How long does it take to complete this course?

For classroom courses, virtual or physical, it is nine days plus revision & exam

For eLearning it is approx. 110-120 hours of self led study.

    This course is available via our trusted training partners, who offer this course at sites across the UK. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

  • Virtual Course - Via training partners

    This course is available via Zoom for those who cannot make it to a physical classroom but still benefit from joint learning and is delivered by a trusted training partner.

e-learning

If you prefer to self-study, we provide an e-learning course requiring a minimum time of self-study which may differ depending on the course and your previous knowledge or expertise in the field or area.

Closed Courses

A closed course is available for your team only. If you have multiple team members who require training, this is logistically easier and cost-effective for upskilling your team.

  • On Site

    This course is delivered by a trainer on-site. If you don’t have a room suitable on your site for training, you may hire a local venue where we can deliver this training to your team members.

  • Stallard Kane Training Room, Gainsborough

    This course is available in our training room in Gainsborough and is suitable for businesses that do not have training facilities.

  • Virtual Course

    This course can be delivered exclusively to your team virtually via zoom.
