CITB SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)

CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course allows participants to manage health and safety on-site and follow current legal requirements as part of their management or supervisory role also allows all participants to recognise a safe working site and develop an understanding of the responsibilities for site health, welfare and safety.

CITB SMSTS is highly regarded qualification for those who want to have a career as a site manager.

  • Entry Requirements: This course requires no formal entry requirements.
  • Course Length: A five-day classroom course, delivered as either a 5-day block or as a day release (one day a week for five weeks).
  • Assessment: Participants will be assessed on their involvement throughout the training. The assessment will also include a presentation and 25 question exam.

What does CITB SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) include?

Upon successful completion of the CITB SMSTS, participants will learn the following:

  • Legislation affecting safe working in the construction industry, including health and safety law and the duties, responsibilities and sanctions surrounding it.
  • The procedure for an accident occurring on-site and the process following the accident.
  • The importance of risk assessments in the workplace.
  • Executing control measures and effective communication to maintain a good health and safety culture.
  • The health and safety implications of working with scaffolding, electricity, excavations, demolition and confined spaces.
  • Any recent changes in accepted working practices and behavioural safety.
  • Management of health of workers.
  • Development of permit systems and safe systems of work
  • Awareness of human error and controlling the risks.
  • Awareness of an organisation’s responsibilities and duties.
  • Recognising the responsibility of the workforce.

What are the learning outcomes for this course?

At the end of the course, participants will be able to;

  • Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation affecting daily work
  • Implement new guidance and industry best practice
  • State your duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment

How is this course assessed?

Participants will be assessed on their involvement throughout the training and the four core exercises of the course. The assessment will also include a presentation and 25 questions exam.

    This course is delivered by a trainer on-site. If you don’t have a room suitable on your site for training, you may hire a local venue where we can deliver this training to your team members.

    This course is available in our training room in Gainsborough and is suitable for businesses that do not have training facilities.

  • Virtual Course

    This course can be delivered exclusively to your team virtually via zoom.
